The Story of Meet Joe Black


Joe Black and Susan Parrish Bill Parrish (ANTHONY HOPKINS) has it all - success, wealth, and power. Days before his 65th birthday he receives a visit from a mysterious stranger, Joe Black (BRAD PITT), who soon reveals himself as Death. In exchange for extra time, Bill agrees to serve as Joe's earthly guide. But will he regret his choice when Joe unexpectedly falls in love with Bill's beautiful daughter Susan (CLAIRE FORLANI).

Meet Joe Black tells the story of media tycoon William Parrish (Anthony Hopkins), whose charmed life and orderly household are suddenly disrupted by the arrival of an enigmatic young man named Joe Black (Brad Pitt) who proceeds to fall in love with Parrish’s beautiful daughter Susan (Claire Forlani). For Parrish, Susan and the rest of his family, the consequences of this romance are profound, complicated and bittersweet, for Joe Black is actually the personification of Death.

Universal Pictures’ Meet Joe Black stars Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins and is produced and directed by Martin Brest. The film co-stars Claire Forlani (The Rock, Elements), Jake Weber (Amistad, Dangerous Beauty), Marcia Gay Harden (The First Wives Club, Desperate Measures), and Jeffrey Tambor (TV's The Larry Sanders Show). The screenplay is written by Ron Osborn & Jeff Reno and Kevin Wade and Bo Goldman. Ronald L. Schwary is executive producer.

Director of photography is Emmanuel Lubezki (Great Expectations, The Birdcage, The Little Princess) and Dante Ferretti (Kundun, The Age of Innocence, Casino) is the production designer. The music is composed by Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, Scent of a Woman) and the costume designers are Aude Bronson-Howard (Donnie Brasco, Looking for Richard) and David C. Robinson (Donnie Brasco, I Shot Andy Warhol). Editors are Joe Hutshing (Jerry Maguire, JFK) and Michael Tronick (Midnight Run, Scent of a Woman).
